Redefining Home

When I was 5 years old, my family relocated for my father’s company consolidation. In preparing for my first-ever move, I told my mom I didn’t want to go because I didn’t want to leave my best friend. She was understandably confused. She couldn’t pinpoint one friend that was my favorite or that I’d spent the most time with from preschool or our neighborhood, so she had to ask. “Who’s your best friend?”

Very emotionally, I replied in all seriousness, “My house!”

Happy Birthday, USA: An ode to my home, sweet home

Hey there, America! Remember me? I know it’s been a while. For the past two years I’ve been residing in Germany, following the love of my life to yet another duty location. And as much as I love it here (and I definitely do), I often miss you.

You’re 242 years old today, Independence Day, but, my, oh my, you certainly look good. You’ve been through a lot over these past almost two and a half centuries. You’ve had your ups and downs, but I still would choose you over living almost anywhere else.

You will always be my home, sweet home.

Changes and Challenges

Changes and Challenges

When I think about what the future holds, the only phrase that comes to mind at the moment is Warrant School.

My husband has been planning to apply to become a warrant officer, and this year, he finally put in a packet to hopefully become part of the selection process. I’m partially excited, since he’s been talking about doing this for years now, but also partially terrified.
