I’m not going to lie. While most of us have some sort of a guilty pleasure, mine is a good reality show. Cheap sorority girl wine, (white zin, obviously), half-baked Ben and Jerry’s, and a steaming heap of junk TV burning my corneas sounds like a perfect night.
While you may never end up on a show that guarantees you a blue check mark on Instagram, you can make the daily drudgery of military life more exciting by turning your Wednesday into a version of your own.
What if someone offered to make you a stronger, more resilient person before you took off for that new duty station? On June 14th, 2018, the United States Army officially turns 243 years old. And what a history it has.
This year’s theme is “Over There: A celebration of Army heroes from World War I to present day.” Since the beginning of WWI in 1914, the Army has deployed soldiers to support missions in multiple wars and conflicts in numerous countries across multiple continents.
During college, one of my friends always had the best birthday celebrations. I remember how I thought his birthday was my favorite birthday (even more than my own!) because it was always such a good time.
Thinking over why this might be, it can of course be attributed, in part, to the friend we were celebrating, but my bigger reason for always loving his birthday best was because it brought people together. It never failed, we all wanted to be there having a great time when it was this guy’s birthday.
I know, I know, we’re supposed to be tough, get up, quit complaining. We have so much to be thankful for, right? We’re military spouses, we know the drill. But sometimes things get real. Not that the optimistic side of me isn’t real, because it’s me most of the time. Every now and again, however, those four little words creep out of the dark into my head.
We welcomed our second child at the beginning of March, expanding our family by one more. I found my experience to be vastly different this time around than with my first son. It’s been interesting to reflect on both situations.
