The Self-Care Conundrum

I am not sure if you share the same loathing I do when I hear the term “self-care”.

It is right up there with the word “resilience”. I know the two terms are necessary and I know they are a part of our modern, military vernacular. Yet, I just can’t get past the irritation that I feel when someone asks me,  “Are you taking time for self-care?”

What does self-care look like to a weathered military spouse? (Sorry, not loving the term “seasoned” right now  either).

9 Things a Professional Organizer Does in January

As a professional organizer, the first few weeks of January hold a special place in my heart. There is something so wonderfully refreshing about clean new planners, optimistic resolutions on bulletin boards, and packing away the beautiful chaos of the holidays. The reset button is a magical thing and New Year’s is a perfect time to hit it! AWTR Show #869: FINANCIAL DOMINANCE: Your Battle Plan for a Richer Life

The biggest misconception about saving money is thinking it’s an important thing to do. Saving money is not an important thing to do. Just like breathing is not an important thing to do, but rather a necessity. Frank Molinar dives into how to set yourself up to live your best financial life in his book FINANCIAL DOMINANCE: Your Battle Plan for a Richer Life.

What’s the deployment wall?

Are You Born with Athletic Skills?

Are You Born with Athletic Skills?

Are you born with athletic skills, or are they developed? The following exchange with retired Colonel Mike Sinisi (U.S. Air Force) will offer some insight. The Army Ten-Miler is not limited to Army personnel only. Mike has made more than ten appearances and registered some impressive times. The important takeaway is not about how fast he is but the development of his training over the years.

Not all of us can “Be Like Mike” and keep up the running performance that outpaces his age. We all have to do the work and make sacrifices, no matter our performance levels. Mike doesn’t step out the door and say, “I’ll run fast today and be first in my age group.” Instead, his approach is to take advantage of the experience and adjust his goals to fit the situation.
