5 Back-to-School Resources
Hello, AWN Fans! As a member of the AWN Core Team, one of my responsibilities is to maintain Army Wife Network’s Resource Database, full of resources that can assist you with everything from deployment, to military kids, to support organizations, and more. All of the resources featured in the Resource Database are vetted by AWN to ensure they are reliable tools to assist you and your family as you navigate military life.
5 Must-Do’s for Back-to-School
Can you believe back to school time is already here? I mean, seriously? There are tears (some of joy), excitement, and anticipation for this time of year.
Here are a few tips to help start the year off right:
Parents: Prepare for the School Year
School will be starting soon for our kids. I have worked in schools for the past few years as an aide and as a teacher. While parents are buying school supplies, filling out paperwork, and making sure that their kids have all they need to head back to school, teachers are also busy.
The Road Trip Bag of Awesomeness
Hey y’all!

Origins of the term “Military Brat”
The traditional reference to military children as “brats” has always bothered me, way before becoming a military spouse. I remember feeling uneasy when I heard the new kids at school being called “brats.” Being called a brat wasn’t the nicest of things to call people, especially from a kid’s perspective. So, to help explain this “brat” reference in the military subculture, I sat down and took the time to research what this term of endearment actually meant.
5 Ways to Save on Your Summer Vacation
Summer is in full swing, but have you been delaying a summer vacation because it all just seems too expensive? It doesn’t have to be that way, and you don’t need to spend lots of cash to create lasting memories. Living on a budget doesn’t equal living a boring legacy. Take time this summer to have fun—just be intentional about it.

An Empty House has Endless Possibilities
Moving all the time must be so hard, they say.
It has to be challenging to live in a new place every few years, they say.
Yet, when I stand in the middle of our new home and look around at the empty space, empty walls, and empty cupboards…
I don’t see the challenges.
