If you’re a parent of a school-aged child, then this week’s Milspouse Empowerment Moment is for you. Amanda B. has been in education for the past ten years (and a classroom teacher for 7 of those). Wanna say Goodbye, Summer Slide? The summer slide is when students forget what they learned the previous year. Amanda gives us tips to help our kids start the school year off on the best foot possible.
We Should Have Jumped More…
When is the last time you Jumped? I mean really jumped?
Jumped for Joy?
Jumped at a some kind of chance?
Jumped into a new duty station?
Jumped to reach a new career height?
Spring and Seasonal Cleaning
Spring is finally has finally made an appearance dear readers! The time of new starts and fresh beginnings! If any of you are like me, spring means cleaning, purging closets of unwanted clothes, and taking time to reconnect with myself and crack down on wellness.
Three C’s to Equip Milkids with Financial Literacy
One of the best things we can do for the next generation is equip them with financial literacy. This military spouse life comes with loads of responsibility: Managing HH6 in the absence of our service member, cross-country (sometimes global!) PCSes, childrearing, tribe-building,and so much more. It goes without saying that “adulting” can be challenging for anyone, but even more so for military spouses and our kiddos.
You Sacrifice Too
I remember the first time a kind woman came up to my husband in uniform and thanked him for his service and sacrifice, and then turned to thank me too. We were in our second year of marriage, and I hadn’t yet heard that from a stranger. I was caught off guard – – taken aback that someone would turn to recognize me, just a normal woman standing by her serviceman’s side. I felt very undeserving.
I wasn’t the one in uniform.
I wasn’t the one sacrificing.
I wasn’t the one serving.
Purple Dandelion
Purple is the color of royalty and strength,
Dandelion flowers bloom and adapt at great lengths.
You radiate the essence of these pillars and more,
They represent how special you are, for much more is in store.
When the “Helper” Needs Help.
Last month I introduced myself as a helper, an encourager, and a professional volunteer. This month I am the one needing the help. I am grateful to have made so many deep connections with throughout these past 16 years serving as an Army Wife, and I loved how my friends and I could pick up anytime and start right where we left off.
How to Model Resilience For Your Children
Spring means many things to many people. Warmer weather. Flowers blooming. Allergies attacking. For military families, though, there’s a totally different meaning: it’s permanent change of station time, that time every April and May when we receive orders for our next duty station.
AWTR Show #891: NMFA + Bloom: Empowering the Military Teen
Military teens face many obstacles that include making friends, moving often, and enduring parental deployments. But perhaps the biggest challenge is the consequences of these obstacles and trying to maintain your mental health. There is a big community and support for military spouses and young military children, but there is a gap in the support when it comes to the military teen. Bloom saw this gap and set out on a mission of empowering the military teen.
