My husband and I recently welcomed our first child to the world, and I now find myself with much more time to reflect on life (translation: I don’t sleep anymore). As first time parents, we’re currently in the throes of the newborn phase, that trial-by-diaper, sleep-deprived state of constant cluelessness that can make even the strongest person cry like a—well—baby. In this state, I’ve realized that being a milspouse is like having a newborn.
Cultivating Kindness
Ah, February. The month of love and candy and stuff. I’ve never been a fan of Valentine’s Day, mostly because taking a special day to tell people that you love them seems really silly. Shouldn’t we be sharing love and kindness every day?
Is Your Child’s Love Tank Full?
After having my second child, I realized that she was completely different from her sister.
She acted differently, she had a different temperament, heck, she even cried differently. I knew I was in for a treat. I say I was spoiled by my first child who was quiet, had the ability to play alone, and never really bothered me. My second was a polar opposite! Always wants me, is interactive, and always gets into trouble.
AWTR Show 504: Still Looking Pregnant
On this week’s empowering episode of Army Wife Talk Radio, we’re chatting with guest, Helen Byrne about still looking pregnant after birth.
My Parenting Manual Got Lost in the Mail
My son turns 6 years old this week, and I can’t help but find myself reflecting on where the time has gone. It’s cliché, I know, but it’s cliché for a reason.
It feels like just yesterday I was scared to death about being a mother.
And now?
I’m scared to death about being a mother for a second time in less than two months.
Making New Friends Isn’t Easy
We’ve been at our new duty station for a little more than a month now, and making new friends has been hard.
I think one of the most difficult things about moving is meeting new people. I used to think I was pretty outgoing, but now that I’m getting older, I realize that I’m actually the opposite.
To the Parent of “That” Child
To the parent of the child that screamed during the entire 20-minute line at the commissary, who I could also tell is was the verge of tears and insanity: I have been there.
Parents: Prepare for the School Year
School will be starting soon for our kids. I have worked in schools for the past few years as an aide and as a teacher. While parents are buying school supplies, filling out paperwork, and making sure that their kids have all they need to head back to school, teachers are also busy.
How PCSing Changed My Life
Do you ever dread moving? Maybe it’s the anticipation for orders or wondering if where you end up next is a place you will want to be. PCSing seems to come with so many unknowns that it’s hard not to have a little bit of anxiety about what things will be like. Because, let’s face it, every PCS is pretty much a new start: A new house, a new group of friends, a new city. Or maybe they’re old hat if you’ve visited or lived there before. Although, that’s not to say that even old hat doesn’t have its own challenges sometimes.
