Did you know… Mission: Milspouse published its 3000th blog post in 2023 and is still growing!
EYB: Fort Rucker, AL
Home of Army Aviation, Fort Rucker covers more than 63,100 acres of southeast Alabama countryside in an area known as the Wiregrass. It is the primary flight training installation for Army aviators, and there are both Army and Air Force pilots and crews at the location. The affectionate nickname “Mother Rucker” is apt as soldiers in the aviation branch will frequently return to Fort Rucker for schools and training, including pilot training and re-education.
With Fresh Eyes
I was driving on post today in my usual rush-rush and turned down the street toward my house. All of a sudden, I was taken back to two years ago when we drove down that street for the first time, when the houses were all mysterious, and I didn’t know where we would live.
Field Problem: Pass Info to Your Parents
Dear, Field Problems:
Why aren’t there any real resources for military parents? There is an assumption that we don’t want to know information or that we don’t care. We are not sure which. Do you know of any resources to help us out?
Pat and Ryan Bryant; Milwaukee, WI; parents of a service member
Field Problem: Space Available Advice
Dear, Field Problems:
I’ve seen quite a few conversations about Space A military travel on your website, but I’m still very confused. Where do I start? Is there anything that is a “must know?” Any advice you can provide would be very helpful. I’m completely overwhelmed.
Gwendloyn; Fort Wainright, AK
Field Problem: Support Group Revival 101
Dear, Field Problems:
I am a veteran, a spouse of an active duty soldier, and a mom of two children. I also work as a Soldier and Family Readiness Group Advisor at Fort Bragg. One of our “field problems” is how to revive our SFRG so that family members can get the support they need. We surveyed family members and found people really want the social aspect, not the learning aspect, which is surprising to me. How do we achieve both?
Kim; Fort Bragg, NC; Army spouse and veteran
Summer Camp: Military Style
The summer sun is bearing down, and we are definitely feeling the heat! At the Crooks house, summer is full of front yard play, complete with sprinklers and snow cones. This summer, though, as I looked across my front lawn, I saw the most peculiar sight: Through the drops of water and sticky syrup, all of the neighborhood children were playing “Army.” It made me laugh (in the civilian world, no one would have understood their madness), and then I was inspired to find more ways to encourage their creative play.
I am An Army Wife
I am an Army wife, a member of that sisterhood of women who have had the courage to watch their men go into battle and the strength to survive until their return. Our sorority knows no rank, for we earn our membership with a marriage license, traveling over miles or over nations to begin a new life with our soldier-husbands. Within days, we turn a barren, echoing building into a home, and though our quarters are inevitably white-walled and unpapered, we decorate with the treasures of our travels, for we shop the markets of the globe.
