There’s an anniversary my husband and I have been talking about for some time now, and I think the same goes for military families, civilians, and global media. It’s the 20-year mark since the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks.
There’s so much uncertainty on how to approach this day, particularly with the recent events in Afghanistan. One thing I’ve been reflecting on recently is that it feels like a lifetime ago.
And for some, it was.
I hear it a lot from my clients: “I hate interviewing.” I get it. Interviewing, especially when our lifestyle ebbs and flows so much, can be nerve wracking. The key to nailing your next interview is knowing how to prepare. I look at prepping for an interview a little bit like studying for an exam. If you start early and take it step-by-step, hopefully, your A+ on the exam will come in the form of an offer letter.
For quite some time, I’ve noticed some disturbing trends across social media. It seems as if toxicity and the people who spread it have been in full force like a wildfire. One topic I’ve seen consistency is bashing women. For example, stay-at-home moms, women who like to wear make up and pretty clothes, women who work, and women being comfortable in their own skin.
Life is hard enough without people intentionally making it miserable for others.
I carry a bag of titles around with me. Why? So that I’m prepared to be what I need to be in that moment.
I know I’m not alone. Pretty much everyone in the world carries around something similar. Yours might include the words parent, teacher, artist, director, chef, or triathlete. It’s not just about what we do but also who we are. I am _____________. Insert your titles. Are you kind? Aggressive? Loving? Generous? Bold? Impatient?
For 2o years, we watched them go.
They were proud to be American service members,
And we were proud to love them.
Our Nation stood proud as they went to avenge the attack on our soil.
We hung yellow ribbons, sang anthems, and waved flags…
No military spouse wants to think about what to do in an emergency when their spouse isn’t home. How do they get the message to their service member? The good news is that the American Red Cross is available 24/7 in cases of emergencies.
