As we near the end of August, many things are happening. School is starting again for many parents and students. Summer is starting to come to its end to bring cooler weather, and the year is quickly (more quickly than I can believe sometimes) nearing its end. Though all of these things are happening, for some people, the holidays are still a distant thought among the general everyday chaos.
HH6
One of the most important parts of supporting your service member as they serve our country is “holding down the fort” (See also: running a smooth, loving, and supportive home life for you and your family, while keeping all things going in your service member’s absence). Easy peasy, right? Sometimes, not so much.
With this category, we cover everything behind the scenes, such as organization, communication, marriage, parenting, overcoming trials, and just some good ole fashioned humor.
Join us as we embark on figuring out the home-life balance as a milspouse and find ways to thrive and excel! No matter what your life at home looks like, one of our Experience Bloggers or Command Team members has probably been in a similar situation and is here to share their triumphs, lessons, and laughs along the way.
Positive Footprints
We all want to leave positive footprints for our children to follow in, something they can carry forward with them in life. One footprint that seems to run through our military families is volunteering. Where there is a parent who volunteers, there tends to be a child who’s either in tow or volunteers themselves.
In a normal year, military installations will submit hundreds of thousands of volunteer hours. There are Volunteer of the Month, Quarter, and Year, and Service Member awards. Behind all of that, there are hours that are never submitted or recognized, but our children see them.
Living Through Loss
Last month, I was faced with a life-changing decision. Many of you reading this have likely experienced something very similar, and it gives me some comfort to know that you may share in my feelings.
Very unexpectedly, my cat Madison became critically ill. For a week prior to this I noticed she seemed a little lethargic and was lying around quite a bit. I didn’t think much of it. I thought perhaps it was a side effect of some medicine she’d been given for ulcers—a problem she had fairly frequently.
Every Month is Month of the Military Child, If You Ask Me
All of us here at Army Wife Network know that April is Month of the Military Child. Interestingly, it is also Sports Eye Safety Month, National Fresh Celery Month, and International Guitar Month, but I think I’ll let someone else write about those topics.
I’m here to write about what I know and love: Military children.
When “Winter” Seems to Last Forever
ife is all about the seasons, and some seasons, like winter, seem to last forever.
Sorry if that sounded kind of corny or slightly cliche, but from where I’m sitting, it’s true—especially for military spouses.
We have seasons of joy. We have seasons of pain. We have seasons of hopeful anticipation. Of disappointment. Of frustration. Encouragement. Waiting. Challenge. Victory.
Yes, it’s all about the seasons.
Sometimes we have a season of “winter” that seems to last forever.
Developing a Positive Attitude Using Affirmations
Most of us know the importance of maintaining a positive attitude. There are serious benefits to optimism.
