13 Years Later

As this new year begins, my husband and I are about to celebrate the 13th anniversary of when we started dating. I sometimes can’t believe I’ve spent almost half of my life with him already, but something even more surprising is how much life we’ve gone through these last 13 years: separations, deployments, multiple PCSes, parenthood, struggles, and successes.

6 Ways Pregnancy is Like Being a Milspouse

As I write this post, I’m sitting in the recliner with my feet up. My dog is nestled beside me, my arms are stretched out farther than they have ever been before as my “belly dances,” and I mentally calculate how long I have until it’s my daily “power nap time.”

Yep. You guessed it. I’m pregnant. The State of the Uterus is very much occupied.

I’m at the point in this pregnancy that no longer classifies as a “little bit” pregnant. I’m really pregnant. Like rapidly-approaching-end-of-third-trimester pregnant.

I have a confession to make.

Sometimes, in the day-to-day shenanigans that is military spouse life, I forget about the pride that comes with this calling.

And I don’t mean pride like, “Look at me, I’m so awesome” pride; more like, “Wow. My spouse is the bomb dot com. This life can be hard, but I sure am proud of what my service members is doing for our country/world/family.”

A Year of Great Change

It’s hard to believe 2016 is about to come to a close, but it was a year of great change, full of ups and downs for my family. I don’t know if I ever imagined things being the way they are at this stage in my life, especially as I approach the big 3-0, but I sure am grateful for the many experiences I’ve had and the many blessings in my life.
