My husband and I just celebrated our 17th wedding anniversary this past weekend, and I couldn’t help but sit across from him at dinner and grin from ear to ear. My heart is full. It only took three dates for him to ask me to marry him, of which my response was, “why...
AWTR Show #919: Veteran Pen Pal Project
The simple act of receiving a letter in the mail can bring such joy to a person. There is an organization that is working very hard to bring joy to our nation’s veterans – the Veteran Pen Pal Project (VPPP). A nationwide initiative that happens continually and focuses on one simple act of kindness – writing a letter supporting our nation’s veterans.
During COVID, VPPP founder, Christina saw a need for veterans in long-term facilities that weren’t getting interaction with anyone. Through social media, they started this initiative and in the first year, they sent over 45,000 letters. The goal is to show veterans they are not forgotten and that they are appreciated.
When All is Said and Done…
When all is said and done, you have to be okay with what you built for yourself in this military life.
When the orders stop coming & the zip codes stop changing, the foundation you built for yourself and your family during this time of service will be the support for your next chapter.
When a Hotel is Home
Sometimes, I enjoy the simplicity of staying in a tiny place, whether it’s a guest room in a family home while on R&R, a calling a hotel home while traveling, or a temporary lodging facility (TLF) on an installation during the transition of a PCS. Maybe it’s even a cramped apartment while stationed overseas. Sure, it can be a challenge as family members trip over each other while getting ready in the morning, or figuring out sleeping arrangements, or having six family members share one bathroom.
But, I also appreciate how small spaces can actually tend to alleviate a little stress.

6 Things You Won’t Regret Saying During Thanksgiving
Simply put, Thanksgiving is all about being thankful and having a grateful heart, but I’m getting a little bit crazy with the holidays coming.
I’m filling the calendar, scheduling time with friends, thinking about turkeys—the ones on sale? stuffed or unstuffed this year?—remembering to find recipes, making lists of ingredients, and pulling down fall decoration boxes from the garage, only to take a deep breath when I see the Christmas boxes next to them.
It’s obvious my mind is like a merry-go-round, whirling with things to do.
AWTR Show #831: Milspouse Affirmations
For this week’s MEM Amber talks to us about empowering Milspouse affirmations. She hopes these can give you the encouragement that you need to tackle your day.
A Lesson about Legacy in the Recipe Box
There’s just something about a legacy.
A few days ago, I was on the hunt for some new recipes to fold into my food arsenal. I knew I could tackle this task from various angles: Google (of course), Pinterest (a hole I might never come out of), some of my recipe books, or—an epiphany—my recipe box.
I hadn’t flipped through my brown roll-top recipe box in a hot minute, so I was pretty excited to see what gems were waiting to be rediscovered.
Plotting a Course to Gratitude
You know those people who always seem to find something to complain about?
You know those people who always seem to find something positive in every situation?
Maybe you’re one of them—quick to catastrophize or let a moment turn into a bad day or always encouraging others to find good. Perhaps you have the patience of Job.
Did you know that our thoughts literally wire our brains? They create connections as synapses form—perhaps they start off like deer trails in the underbrush, difficult to see and follow, but before you know it, if you don’t guard your thoughts, that path has become a newly opened toll road and you have an express pass, quickly getting you from Point A to Point B.
But is it worth the cost?
