5 Values to Keep in Your Heart

5 Values to Keep in Your Heart

We can probably agree that the holidays, and life in general, have become more about ourselves than family or friends. What a sad realization that is. To change that, I’ve compiled a list of values everyone should keep in their heart, not just now, but throughout the new year to make it a year of compassion.

Humorous Holiday Hacks, Round #2

Humorous Holiday Hacks, Round #2

Can we all take a collective, deep, cleansing breath? I don’t know about you, but sometimes the holidays stress me out. Sure, last month I made the vow to switch things up a bit this year for the holidays, transitioning from stressed to blessed, but let’s be honest. Even in a “perfect” world, that would be a tall order, let alone trying to mesh that vision with the craziness that is the life of a military spouse. One of my coping mechanisms for stress is humor. Last year, I shared some Humorous Holiday Hacks here at Army Wife Network.

Apparently, they were well received.

Either way, I have been asked to expand on my “hacks” from last year, adding some fresh ones to the mix.

Maintaining Christmas Traditions

Maintaining Christmas Traditions

Change is impossible to avoid in military life. It’s constant in our life, but our family tries maintaining Christmas traditions, especially during the holidays. Our traditions are simple, but our kids make sure that we always remember them. We look forward to them, and I think it provides some continuity in our ever-changing life and world.

Big Family, Small Christmas

Big Family, Small Christmas

Every year we say, “We aren’t going to over do it. Our kids have everything, and way more than most. Let’s have a small Christmas.” Does this sound familiar to you?

And every year, we fail. Some years are worse than others. Ultimately, after the opening of the presents is over, I end up surveying the scene and remarking to myself, “What have we done?!” There were years where the kids opened so much stuff, six months would go by before they even finished unpackaging or playing with something they received.

10 Steps to a Debt-Free Holiday

10 Steps to a Debt-Free Holiday

My husband and I are committed to living debt free. For us, this means that even during the Christmas season, we don’t use credit cards or loans to purchase anything. Not even for the reward points that some companies offer on lines of credit. Still, we’re able to provide a nice holiday for our family.

So, how can you enjoy the holidays and remain debt free?
