Positive Footprints
We all want to leave positive footprints for our children to follow in, something they can carry forward with them in life. One footprint that seems to run through our military families is volunteering. Where there is a parent who volunteers, there tends to be a child who’s either in tow or volunteers themselves.
In a normal year, military installations will submit hundreds of thousands of volunteer hours. There are Volunteer of the Month, Quarter, and Year, and Service Member awards. Behind all of that, there are hours that are never submitted or recognized, but our children see them.
Raising a Military Child
This month, families all over the world are celebrating Month of the Military Child.
It didn’t hit me that I’m raising a military child until the other day when my daughter was admiring a new piece of wall décor I recently purchased. It’s a wooden board that hangs in our living room that reads, “Home is where the Army sends us.”
When You Become the Parent of a Military Child
A little more than a year ago I had my son—my first child. Not only did I become a mother the moment he was born, he became a military child. I became the parent of a military child.
It isn’t always something you think about, but when the reality of your situation in a military family comes to the forefront of your daily life, it’s hard to ignore.
Every Month is Month of the Military Child, If You Ask Me
All of us here at Army Wife Network know that April is Month of the Military Child. Interestingly, it is also Sports Eye Safety Month, National Fresh Celery Month, and International Guitar Month, but I think I’ll let someone else write about those topics.
I’m here to write about what I know and love: Military children.

How to Prepare for a Military Homecoming
As the countdown slowly ticks away to homecoming, there’s a standard preparation you can expect.
For some reason, the perfect outfit seems to be at the top of the list. Over the years, and after attending more than 50 homecomings, I’ve seen some pretty epic outfits. The one that takes the cake is the spouse who dressed in an inflatable T-rex costume, one I didn’t see personally, but Google can help you witness it. Besides the outfit, there are the signs, the kids’ outfits (if applicable), getting the house cleaned up, and so much more.
