From Hooah to Hope

I’ve been an Army spouse for almost 22 years, and I’ve been an Army mom for a little more than 22 hours at the time of this writing.

At least that’s how long it’s been since I left my daughter to be transported from the Houston MEPS station to basic training.

My 2019 Word

As I sat and thought about my 2019 word back in December, I had to ask myself where I wanted to be in a year.

Where did I feel like I wasn’t giving my best effort? What about myself would I like to see improved, a trait I’d like to see strengthen? And almost like a wrecking ball, the word “intentional” started showing up everywhere. In my Facebook and Instagram feeds, in books I was reading, in conversations with dear friends. I felt like this was the word I needed to focus on in 2019.

Which Breast Pump is Best for You?

Choosing a breast pump can be daunting, especially as a first-time mom. How are you supposed to know what you need if you’ve never done it before? Fortunately, we’ve helped thousands of moms find the right pump for them.

Slow Down and Smell the Roses

Slow Down and Smell the Roses

It’s hard to believe we’re approaching the last month of 2018 already! This year has gone by so quickly that it almost seems as though it was just the beginning not so long ago. Sometimes, it makes me think we need to slow down a little.

Show #670: BRAT and the Kids of Warriors

Debuting a new book series for tweens and teens, author and U.S. Army veteran Michael Joseph Lyons is borrowing scenes from his own military family upbringing to craft the adventurous escapades of the McMasters children in “BRAT and the Kids of Warriors.”

Expanding Our Family

Expanding Our Family

We welcomed our second child at the beginning of March, expanding our family by one more. I found my experience to be vastly different this time around than with my first son. It’s been interesting to reflect on both situations.

My Happiest Moment

My Happiest Moment

Sometimes it’s hard to remember that my happiest moment was birthed from tragedy. Every joyful shout surrounding my happiest moment is shadowed by a painful whisper that my joy was rooted in grief and loss.

It’s almost paralyzing to look back on my life and select my happiest moment.

ACS Nurturing Program

ACS Nurturing Program

When my service member and I moved to Fort Carson back in 2011, it was our first duty station, and we had no idea what to expect. Fortunately for us, we soon found a gem of a program offered through Army Community Service that got us through potty training, tantrums, and so much more.

No matter where you’re headed or currently stationed, the ACS Family Nurturing Program is something you should check out. Does free child care and kid-free adult interaction sound good to you? Great!

They’re Saying Aspergers

They’re Saying Aspergers

Ten years. It had been 10 years since I delivered my last baby boy, and I was telling the nurse that if she didn’t grab a doctor immediately, she or my husband would have to try to play catch.

Everything since that moment has been a ruck I was not equipped for.

I look back through photos and I see it more clearly now. Isaiah always had this almost constant anxiety/intensity about him, this more focused look in his eyes. I remember bringing it up to a doctor once, but she didn’t think too much of it.
