When the “Helper” Needs Help.

Last month I introduced myself as a helper, an encourager, and a professional volunteer. This month I am the one needing the help. I am grateful to have made so many deep connections with throughout these past 16 years serving as an Army Wife, and I loved how my friends and I could pick up anytime and start right where we left off.

The Running Spouse

I could start with “What is a military spouse?” but I would soon be running (no pun intended) out of space.  A military spouse must adapt to changing schedules and develop creative ways of doing things. There will be  times when one parent must become both parents. They will have to say the following, “Be careful, and I will miss you, and I love you.”

Coping Through Deployment

Sometimes life can be overwhelming. The constant demands of day to day living make it hard to catch our breath. Work, family, sports practices, being at home with small children, sick children and the list goes on and on. This can be especially exhausting when one partner is away training or deployed and “regular stuff” is left to be taken care of day in and day out. The days feel long and, at times, even like there is no end in sight.

AWTR Show #883: Military Birth Resource Network

With each move, comes the important, repetitive, and annoying search for new local resources. New doctors, new dentists, new mechanic, etc. And if you’re pregnant, this search for local resources only becomes more stressful. That’s where Military Birth Resource Network comes in.

Take a Chance on Yourself

Adam Peterman of Montana was ranked eighth Ultrarunner of the Year in 2021. He is fulfilling his dreams and has returned to his alma mater where he began at Hellgate High School as the coach.

Adam shares his philosophy about running.

At Military Hospitals, Yoga Offers Calm in the Storm

Like many military spouses living in the greater Washington, D.C. area, I get my medical care at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in Bethesda, Maryland.

Sitting in the lobby at a recent medical appointment, I couldn’t help but notice how busy the place was. People coming in and out, wounded warriors heading to appointments, medical equipment being delivered, staff members rushing to their next shift, and patients receiving critical care.
