Hurricane Ian: Army Vet Committed to Helping His Community

Since Hurricane Ian slammed into Florida, we’ve all watched the news reports with a sinking feeling. With so much destruction, so many of our hearts are broken for our friends, family and communities across the state. One thing is clear — there’s a lot of pain but there are also a lot of great people doing their part.

The Warrior’s Compass

When Hope For the Warriors, came up with the idea for Warrior’s Compass, we had one thing in mind: assisting our veteran community in different ways to navigate their civilian career search.

Military Spouse and Caregiver Scholarship

Since its inception Hope For The Warriors (HOPE) has strived to support the entire military through its programs, particularly spouses and caregivers. We all know that the entire family serves, and many continue to serve even after their warrior is out of the service due to injuries and unforeseen life changes from said injuries.

AWTR Show #919: Veteran Pen Pal Project

The simple act of receiving a letter in the mail can bring such joy to a person. There is an organization that is working very hard to bring joy to our nation’s veterans – the Veteran Pen Pal Project (VPPP). A nationwide initiative that happens continually and focuses on one simple act of kindness – writing a letter supporting our nation’s veterans.

During COVID, VPPP founder, Christina saw a need for veterans in long-term facilities that weren’t getting interaction with anyone. Through social media, they started this initiative and in the first year, they sent over 45,000 letters. The goal is to show veterans they are not forgotten and that they are appreciated.

AWTR Show #913: WW2 Armor

It all started with a Thompson .45 caliber machine gun. And then 37 tanks later, WW2 Armor was born. Now there is an organization that can breathe life into what people typically only read about in books.

WW2 Armor is a self-propelled living museum that demonstrates fully operational WWII tanks, tank destroyers, and artillery at public events as a way to honor the men who fought in them. One such public event is coming up, the D-Day reenactment in Conneaut, Ohio (more information below). This event brings Normandy here and makes it accessible to people who normally might not be able to experience it.

AWTR Show #909: Book: Danger Forward

Can you imagine graduating from West Point right as the Korean War started and then talking your way into getting orders to Korea? Paul Gorman did not only that but became an instrumental strategist in the US Army.  Author Mike Guardia recounts the amazing career of Paul Gorman in the new book, Danger Forward.

A 1950 West Point graduate, Paul Gorman entered the officer ranks during the inaugural years of the Cold War. Like many of his classmates, Gorman served on the frontlines in Korea and Vietnam.  As a young Lieutenant Colonel, he commanded 1-26 Infantry at the Battle of Bong Trang in 1966, where he was awarded the Distinguished Service Cross – the nation’s second highest award for valor.

PTSD Awareness: Supporting Our Heroes on the Home Front

When the brave men and women of our Armed Forces take the oath to defend our freedoms, they are committing their minds and bodies to protect our nation at all costs. For over eight million service members and veterans, the effects of war and service have led to PTSD, putting strains on their relationships, careers, and overall well-being. Understanding this impact on our military community and their families, Hope For The Warriors works each and every day to provide resources, programs, and services dedicated to improving the quality-of-life for all those with PTSD.

Let’s Talk about Voicemail

As a career coach, a great deal of the advice I give to clients pertains to resumes, interviewing, and dressing for success. However, it is also crucial to pay close attention to the small details in a job search. Those can include choosing a professional email provider, writing thank you notes after interviews and cleaning up your social profiles. However, I frequently see clients overlook how they’re using voicemail as a job-seeking professional.

Remembering Your Loved One this Memorial Day

One company that understands the importance of celebrating a life is Eterneva. With a focus on bringing brightness and healing to death and grief, Eterneva creates memorial diamonds from ashes that celebrate remarkable loved ones. These cremation diamonds they create are an incredibly special and unique way to memorialize your military spouse in a way that shows how remarkable they truly were.
