Food For Thought

Food For Thought

When was the last time you truly connected with yourself? When was the last time you took a few moments to remember what makes you, you? We as humans need to take time (even if it’s just five minutes) to connect with our souls and remember what makes us genuine and unique. It’s a little bit of food for thought for all of us because it’s hard to focus on that part of ourselves at times when we’re wrapped up in so many other things and/or focusing our energy somewhere else.

Hello, My Name is…

Hello, My Name is…

I carry a bag of titles around with me. Why? So that I’m prepared to be what I need to be in that moment.

I know I’m not alone. Pretty much everyone in the world carries around something similar. Yours might include the words parent, teacher, artist, director, chef, or triathlete. It’s not just about what we do but also who we are.  I am _____________. Insert your titles. Are you kind? Aggressive? Loving? Generous? Bold? Impatient?

What’s Your Obstacle?

What’s Your Obstacle?

Somewhere in early 2016 I discovered a fitness group that would alter the overall course of my life; I just didn’t know it then. Melissa would lead regular workout sessions in a few places around Fort Carson, and every meetup would vary in group size, experience, and of course, the workouts. Melissa’s positivity was tangible, infectious, and she made us believers. Believers in her, believers in ourselves, and believers in the group. She is what made Body Blast more than just a way to pass the time, but a lifelong pursuit for me.

If You Had a PCS in 2021…

If You Had a PCS in 2021…

If you read that first line and thought, “Ooh, I have to see what this says,” then you probably PCS’d in 2021.

If you didn’t PCS this year, you probably still know the hardships that this year was for military families around the world.

A tight housing market and shortages within the moving companies threw many of us for a loop.

The excitement of viewing homes on realtor.com quickly turned to dread, and even fear, as fewer and fewer options became available.

Bidding wars started on houses where, in the past, none would have existed.

A Lesson about Legacy in the Recipe Box

A Lesson about Legacy in the Recipe Box

There’s just something about a legacy.

A few days ago, I was on the hunt for some new recipes to fold into my food arsenal. I knew I could tackle this task from various angles: Google (of course), Pinterest (a hole I might never come out of), some of my recipe books, or—an epiphany—my recipe box.

I hadn’t flipped through my brown roll-top recipe box in a hot minute, so I was pretty excited to see what gems were waiting to be rediscovered.

Facing an Empty Calendar After a Move

Facing an Empty Calendar After a Move

Before I knew I was moving, my calendar was full of things to do: meetings, volunteer activities, soccer games, and coffee meet-ups with the gals. I would get to the end of the day, review what I had up tomorrow, and think “I am way too busy.”

Then, I found out we were moving.

3 Tips for Making Friends

3 Tips for Making Friends

Watching my children making friends looks effortless on their part. They introduce themselves, and instantaneously, they’ve got a best friend. Me on the other hand, the uncertainty of the endeavor is always a challenge. It usually takes me a few months of getting the lay of the land to even attempt to make friends. If I do not have all my ducks in a row, it’s hard for me to concentrate on making friends.
