Here’s How You Can Help the USA’s Blood Supply

Today, our nation is facing a severe blood shortage as hospitals are responding to an atypically high number of traumas and emergency room visits. Across the country, there’s a great hospital demand for blood. Part of the reason for this strong demand is because patients who previously delayed care and surgeries during the COVID-19 pandemic are now experiencing advanced disease progression and seeking medical treatment. This type of advanced care can require even more blood transfusions.

Kindness from a Stranger

We recently made the big move from Germany to Fort Lee, Virginia. That on its own sounds daunting, but roll in the fact we did it with an 8-year-old and triplet 3-year-olds, and we were a walking circus! As with every move, there were highs and lows with emotions and all the frustrations that come from living out of a suitcase for months and packing and repacking more times than you can count. So, by the time we finished the first leg of our trip from Germany to Washington, D.C., I was an exhausted mother running on fumes and barely able to keep the smile on my face.

A Lesson about Legacy in the Recipe Box

There’s just something about a legacy.

A few days ago, I was on the hunt for some new recipes to fold into my food arsenal. I knew I could tackle this task from various angles: Google (of course), Pinterest (a hole I might never come out of), some of my recipe books, or—an epiphany—my recipe box.

I hadn’t flipped through my brown roll-top recipe box in a hot minute, so I was pretty excited to see what gems were waiting to be rediscovered.
