A Healthy Eating Journey
Healthy eating has been one of my goals for this year, and I’ve done well (by my definition) with it up until recently when I PCS’d. I’ve fallen back into my old tendencies of grabbing food to-go quite often, because I make the excuse that it is easier or that I don’t have time. In reality, it turns into a money pit, and I’m always left wondering how in the world I spent so much money on food.

5 Tips for Smooth HHG Delivery
You left your duty station a week or more ago. You’ve had some cozy days in a hotel, and one morning you wake up deciding you are over the #HotelLife and really can’t wait to get into your new home.
And you’re in luck. It’s move-in day.
The movers call to say they’re ready to deliver your belongings. They can be at the address you gave them within the hour.
While you’re on the phone with the movers, you get a text from the on-post leasing office, confirming your appointment time to sign the paperwork and get the keys to your new home.
In lieu of the whole story (far too long a story to share on the blog), here are my top 5 tips for a smooth HHG delivery. (Yes, feel free to assume that these are things I wish I’d done):
Are You a Military or Veteran Caregiver?
To be honest, I didn’t know I was a caregiver. My husband is a combat-wounded Marine, and he was going through the military treatment facilities and then the Wounded Warrior Battalion at Camp Pendleton. Even during that time, I still did not realize that I was a caregiver – or that I would be for the rest of my husband’s life. It wasn’t until one day when I was in the waiting room at Balboa Naval Hospital and a lovely nurse asked me the question. She came out and asked, “Are you Stephen’s caregiver?” I quickly pulled back and brushed that off by saying “No, no, my husband is young, I’m just his wife.” Diplomatic and full of wisdom, she smiled at me and said, “You are probably both.”
Your Running Program, One Year Later
The fitness environment has changed since last year, including the running atmosphere. Take a few moments to reflect on your family, work, and social life. You had to rearrange your life which my have included that of being a teacher. At the onset COVID-19 was thought of being a pandemic overseas. It was only a matter of time before it reached U.S. soil. As the weeks passed, the freedom of movement was curtailed as health protocols were put into place, which included closing gyms. Now, over a year later, things are finally turning around.
