Did you know… Mission: Milspouse published its 3000th blog post in 2023 and is still growing!
Room To Grow Roots
Among my family, the adage “grow where you’re planted” is taken literally. It’s not just good advice; it’s the fond memory of kicking muddy boots off on the porch, and Hot Wheels cars racing along dirt tracks in the big garden.
How to Empower Other Military Spouses
I think most of us, whether we’ve been a spouse for one year or 20, know how it feels to be powerless in our role of “dependent.” Sometimes it feels like we’re fighting an uphill battle in our day-to-day life as our spouse trains for and fights in real battles. Many of us know what it feels like to feel completely alone. Maybe you’ve wanted to change that. Maybe you’re tired of seeing spouses tear each other down when our circumstances often do that enough already. Instead, maybe you’re looking for ways to build each other up.
Here are some stepping stones that can lead to the empowerment of one another as military spouses:
Meet a Cyclist Turned Runner
This is the time of the year where two conditions can work against you: dehydration and hyponatremia. The best defense is to ensure that you hydrate during the day if you are training in the late afternoon or evening. During your training you should have some type of sports drink and not just plain water. It does not take long for dehydration to set in. One way to tell is if you feel thirsty then it is too late. There may be a tendency to over drink to remedy the dehydration and it can cause the other condition hyponatremia. These two conditions affect your performance and they are preventable.
Volunteer Opportunity: Dogs on Deployment
Author’s note: I am not a representative of Dogs on Deployment and information listed in this post is solely my opinion.
We lost our beloved 90-pound lap dog last August, just one week after learning we’d be PCSing. We were crushed by the unexpected turn of events in his health that led us to have to make a very difficult decision. Our son was heartbroken. We were leaving the only home he has known, along with his grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins…and now our dog, too.
Reinventing Rosie
During WW II, thousands of women answered their nation’s call to turn off their ovens and fire up their riveters as they joined the manufacturing workforce. Between 1942 and 1948, the “Rosies” inspired the world with their rallying cry, “We can do it”.
Whether or not Rosie secretly preferred producing rivets to roast beef may be the greatest mystery of all time.
4 Tips to Becoming a One-Car Family
We didn’t have an option to bring a car with us to our new OCONUS location, unless of course we wanted to pay to ship it and have it brought up to Japanese emissions standards and drivability requirements on our own dime.
So, no option, really.
A PCS Must Do: Stay Connected
We are currently transitioning at my parents’ home in Kentucky between PCS moves from Michigan to South Carolina. All six of us (husband, four boys, and I) packed what we needed for a four-week stint between moves as we await our household goods delivery the first week of July.
We have been here for almost three weeks to date and have had the luxury of spending time with family and neighbors since the day we drove up the long gravel driveway.
