One thing that has been most important to me, as a military spouse, is figuring out how to best do this life while supporting our children with the changes and difficulties. When my children were very small, there were many times that my husband was away, and I had to parent my children alone.

I have a child with a learning disability.
He has struggled academically and socially to “keep up” with his peers and grade level since Pre-K. As we begin his 4th grade experience in a new school, in a different state, with a number of changes (to include deployment in the mix), I need to gather my thoughts and streamline my efforts that will set him up for success this year.

When Living Overseas is Difficult
I always say that it’s worth taking a shot on an OCONUS PCS. Living overseas in a new place can be exciting with plenty of things to see and do.
But it can also feel isolated, scary, and too new for comfort.
I spent three years overseas in Germany, living in a very small German village, so I feel I have a little bit of perspective on this. I didn’t live on post. I was in a set of six row homes, all of whom were Americans, but we were surrounded by Germans.
It. Was. Hard.
EYB: Fort Belvoir, Virginia
Fort Belvoir is located on the Virginia-Maryland border, relatively close to the nation’s capital. Fort Belvoir is surrounded by other cities, making this location a more metropolitan area than other duty stations. Fort Belvoir includes three components—the main base, Davison Army Airfield, and Fort Belvoir North Area—and houses two major command headquarters, 10 major commands, 19 Army agencies, eight Reserve and Guard elements, and elements from other military branches.
The Molding of a Milspouse
A new and young milspouse was contemplating her options aloud, and I couldn’t help but feel excited for her. As wild of a journey as this life is, there are also many opportunities available to us. With those opportunities, however, come obstacles: small, big, and even monumental-sized ones.
If a spouse, especially one with children, is going to pursue anything, there are several questions they have to ask themselves.
