Recollections as an Army Brat in the 1950s
Life with the Army can be interesting and exciting, sometimes difficult and unusual; but, it is never boring!
The First Step for the New Year
Happy New Year! I trust that everyone had the opportunity to spend time with family and friends. I had a chance to bring in the New Year spending the weekend with my 15-month-old grandson, rolling around on the floor. Good thing I’m in shape, because the little tank never stopped moving around. I’m sure many of you know the feeling. The beauty of being a grandparent is the kids get to go back to their mommy and daddy. I know, shame on me, but he’ll be back.
Holding It Down, Solo? I Salute You!
I am a magnet for strangers who repeatedly make the following comment to me:
“Oh my, you sure have your hands full!”
Finding Comfort in Discomfort
I’ve said on more than one occasion that I’m a better follower than a leader. People say I sounded like I was being self-deprecating, but I don’t see it that way.
I know myself.
I know my strengths, and I know my weaknesses. And then I became president of a spouses’ club, and all of my preconceived notions about myself went right out the window.
Dreaming About My Husband’s Return
I’ve been dreaming about my husband’s return since the minute he left for his tour a year ago. By the time my posts goes live, we’ll have already moved my belongings from New York to Virginia and spent a few days together. It’s crazy to think that it’s all coming so quickly!
A Resolution You Will Want to Keep
A frequent topic of conversation in the beginning of every year is New Year’s resolutions. You know the drill… Loose weight. Get in shape. Clean out the closets. Eat healthy foods. Be a better friend. Pay down debt. Quit smoking. Find a hobby. Read more. De-clutter. Unplug. Organize the garage. Keep a journal.
Although 45% of Americans make New Year’s resolutions, only 46% of those resolutions survive through June. Whether or not you make them or keep them, if you are in career transition and looking for a job, now would be a great time to make this one and stick to it:
I resolve to take a fresh look at all aspects of my transition and job search plan and make adjustments that will enhance my chances of success.
Here are 11 ways to help you implement and keep that resolution.
Field Problem: Continuing Health Care Benefits
Dear, Field Problems:
I’m living in Florida and my husband is in Germany. He’s getting out of the Army next year. With all of the insurance laws and changes, does the Army offer any temporary insurance plans? We have a child on the way, and I want to make sure that she’s covered.
