Why Does She Have to PCS?
I knew the day was coming, but it felt so far away. In fact, it still doesn’t feel real. It happens all the time in the military community—people move, and then they move again. I’ve said it many times—it’s a small big military, and we never lose our forever friends; they just move a bit. I’ve also always said people are closer than ever with Facebook and texting. But when I know they’re leaving, it make me want to cry, “Why does she have to PCS?”

Maybe you recently PCS’d, and the idea of bundling your family into a vehicle again gives you hives. Or maybe it isn’t your family’s turn for a PCS this summer, but your budget doesn’t allow for too much travel, your spouse is deployed, or you simply would rather explore more of the area where you’re stationed. Whatever the reason, if your version of a family summer vacation this year means staying put at home, a “staycation,” then make the most of a relaxing week or two while preventing your kids from defaulting into the, “I’m bored!” mode!
Vacation All I Ever Wanted
If you’re anything like us, you often spend what extra leave time you might have visiting family. And, if you’re anything like us, you might have come to realize that pretty much all the leave your partner takes turns into”‘vacations” visiting your family.
Since my husband and I have the majority of our family within driving radius, we spend all our leave time, and now four-day vacations, visiting.
PCS, Marriage, and Microwave Placement
A couple of days ago, I stood in our scantly-equipped kitchen. Our little family was finishing up our latest PCS. We had arrived at our final destination, found a wonderful house that met our needs, and now we were waiting on the delivery of our household goods.
So, yes, there I stood, looking around our bare kitchen, dreaming, planning, thinking… all of which are fave hobbies of mine with any PCS.

5 Ways to Help Children Adjust to a PCS
PCSing is hard on the entire family, but when you have children, they may take it the hardest. No matter their ages, a big life change like moving is a traumatic experience in their lives.
When PCSing from a loved location or a location where your family may have lived nearby or there were good friends made, the move is even harder for everyone. While you’re mourning the loss of this location, keep in mind that the rest of your family is, too.
